Pride History

PRIDE Fighting Championships began in 1997 with one philosophy: the acceptance of any fighting technique from any school to mimic the realities of an actual fight in the form of a legitimate and honorable sport. Today, this philosophy has evolved into the sport of mixed martial arts. On October 11, 1997, in front of 47,000 fans at the popular Tokyo Dome in Japan, Rickson Gracie faced Nobuhiko Takada in the first ever PRIDE main event. Gracie personified the legend of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, his family's unique fighting style from Brazil, while his opponent, Takada, represented the style of professional wrestling. Both claimed the superiority of their respective fighting art and catapulted PRIDE into a Japanese cultural phenomenon that would sustain a decade of impressive and memorable no-holds barred fights before it was purchased by the UFC in March 2007.
    Pride Rules
There are no holds barred on the road to victory in PRIDE Mode. One stomp to the face, and there is no question PRIDE plays by a different set of rules and moves than the UFC. Soccer kicks, knees to the head and face stomps are all legal moves in PRIDE Mode. PRIDE matches also consist of three rounds with irregular times. Round 1 lasts 10 minutes, while Rounds 2 and 3 each last five minutes.
    Authentic Presentation
The fireworks explode and the neon glow of the striking green lasers lights up the arena as PRIDE fighters make their way to the omnipotent white ring. PRIDE has been recreated in all its sensational presentation to make every move feel like the player is right there.
    Pride Fighters
In addition to fighting with the PRIDE versions of UFC legends like Vitor Belfort and Anderson Silva, gladiators Bob Sapp and Kazuhiro Nakamura are just two of over 30 exclusive PRIDE fighters in-game who battled in the legendary promotion. With each PRIDE fighter, players have a significant amount of brutal and strategic moves at their disposal.
Pride in all Its Audible Glory
Every aspect of the PRIDE audio experience has been recreated and offers a distinct unique difference from the UFC. From the referee’s instructions pumped through the public address system, the colossal screams of PRIDE ring announcer Lenne Hardt and authentic play-by-play commentary featuring Bas Rutten and Stephen Quadros, this is PRIDE.
